Gastric ulcer is corrosive action of acid on the mucosa of the upper gastrointestinal tract. Ulcers can develop in the esophagus, stomach or duodenum. Peptic ulcer (PU) disease represents a worldwide health problem due to morbidity, mortality and economic loss. H pylori infection, tobacco smoking, and use of minor tranquillizers were the main risk factors for PU in this population. Researchers develop various screening methods for the study of antiulcer drug development. Out of this screening methods some are used widely such as pylorus ligation, NSAID induced ulcer, stress induced ulcer by immobilization and water immersion, erosion by ethanol and acetic acid. In this present review we discuss the various screening methods used for the antiulcer drug development.
